Things you can do to insure a quality mount

The very best mounts start with you and how you handle the trophy in the field. Learn how to do it right. It will make a difference you can see.

Find a good taxidermist before you need him. every time you go into the field or on the water there is a chance of bringing home the trophy of a lifetime.

Ask your taxidermist how he wants you to take care of your trophy, especially if traveling a long way to hunt or fish.

Get your trophy to the taxidermist now! There will be plenty of time to show it off later. If you can't get it in right away, freeze it immediately.

Some do's and don'ts if planning on mounting your trophy

Never shoot a trophy animal in the head or neck! The heart and lung area is a much bigger target and will result in a quick kill without causing damage that will show up in a mount. The only exception to this would be a turkey.

Keep your field dressing incision small as possible. Never cut into the brisket area.

Never, never cut a big game animals throat. It's just not necessary.

Never start cutting if you are unsure of what to do. Once you make a bad cut it's too late.

Never gut a fish or small animal.

Never let a fish or bird flop around.

Be careful in warm weather. Things will spoil in just a few short hours in warm temperatures.

Keep your trophy clean and away from dirt, blood, and flies.

Never let your trophy soak in water or lay directly on ice.
